Why choose concrete panels in your next steel-framed building

Prestressed concrete panels are an easy to use, versatile materials when it comes to buildings. As a low cost alternative to mass poured concrete walls and are flexible for future removal and alterations, concrete panels are becoming increasingly popular. The panels contain steel wires giving them the strength using 9.3mm high tensile steel.

100mm thick concrete panels are typically used for light duty installations for buildings with uses as livestock housing and workshops, whereas the thicker panels are used for load bearing units such as grain stores, and silage pits. Panels can also be used as division walling and a great addition as a security measure/deterrent. With no requirement for a strip footing or foundation, they are a low cost and faster installation alternative to blockwork.

Concrete panels are very versatile, we can incorporate apertures within, to house stables windows using a mold when casting the concrete, these are typically 1665mm x 914mm.

With the option of a flat top finish too, these are ideal for sighting a feed barrier, or for panels on top of a retaining panel.

How do I fit concrete panels?

Panels are lifted into place with lifting shackles, that screw into the top of the panel and are removed once the panel is secured and in situ. Concrete panels can be placed within the web of the steel or the inside face using fixing plates, which clamp onto the face of the steel and bolted into a pre-made eye bolt hole within the panels.

They are typically connected with a tongue and grove joint at the top and bottom of the panel horizontally and fixed to steel, enabling fast construction and a clean finish.
