Building the future one apprentice at a time

Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week, we would like you to meet, Reece Morris.

Reece joined Fowler & Gilbert in July 2022, as a school leaver from The Grove School, Market Drayton. Completing his Engineering Operative Level 2 through Total People, he is based on-site with our in-house experienced team of erectors for 3 out of 4 weeks. Travelling across the length and breadth of the country, he has been learning new skills and has proven to be a real asset to the Fowler & Gilbert team.

“The work on site is really enjoyable, it can be difficult to come to grips with but after practice, it is much simpler, it is nice to simultaneously learn from job to job as well, the little things like what certain tools are called, what the tools do to things like understanding the drawings more so I don’t have to rely on everyone else to tell me exactly what goes where and I can have the independence to find out for myself but ask any questions if I must.

It is great to get to work in a team as well, It is much more enjoyable working and being able to have a laugh whilst getting the job done. Everyone in the Office and the Workshop are also great to talk to and have plenty of banter.” – Reece Morris

Encouraging students to pursue their career paths is essential to the future generations of our industry. We work closely with Total People and Reaseheath College, to offer placements and work experience wherever possible.

With continuous support and ongoing training, Fowler & Gilbert pride ourselves on developing a learning plan with achievable goals for our students, whilst getting paid to learn the trade!

“Reece is familiar with the work that we do at Fowler & Gilbert after he reflected on what he wanted to do after he left school the conversations started with us in relation to an apprenticeship, we made contact with Total people to ask what we could offer Reece and how we could link this to the work that we do. The team at Total people were able to offer a selection of courses that could be achieved with them and enable us to support Reece with his progression.

The process of enrolling, registering was made easy with the assistance of Total People’s knowledgeable team. Reece has become an integral part of our site teams , he has shown a mature attitude in relation to the academic as well as the practical side of his apprenticeship.

The feedback that we have received from our site supervisors that Reece has worked with has been nothing but positive and all agree that he is displaying the skills required and expected from our teams already. Reece is a positive and enthusiastic individual and is progressing to achieve his goal.

As we look back on the last twelve months and the very start of the apprenticeship journey it has come apparent that we have the ability to accommodate further opportunities throughout the company for individuals who want to have a balance of practical and theory work  in a life working environment and utilise and learn from the retained knowledge and skills of our teams here at Fowler & Gilbert Ltd” – Tony Sproston – HR & HS Manager

We caught up with Reece’s instructor/assessor who regularly meets with Reece to monitor his progress –

“Reece you have made very good progress to the above task, showing very good welding techniques and skills to complete the task in a very effective manner, showing an excellent work ethic and approach to the task and completed the practical and written element with evidencing the criteria in a very effective manner. Well done on your excellent progress so far ” – Tony Lloyd, Instructor/Assesor
